Documentary Puts Spotlight on Ford GT Return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans
One of the greatest automotive rivalries of the 20th Century began when Henry Ford II tried to buy Ferrari in the 1960s, but had his offer rebuffed by Enzo Ferrari. Angered by being rebuffed, Ford then decided to get even with Ferrari by beating them at the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans. Several false starts, millions in product development and several years later, Ford managed to win victories at Le Mans with the amazing Fort GT40 in 1966, 1967, 1968, and 1969.
The pinnacle of Ford’s achievements with the GT40 was in 1966, when a trio of GT40s took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd at Le Mans. Given that the the 50th anniversary of that famous race takes place in 2016, Ford has been putting significant effort towards prepping their factory racing team for a return to Le Mans. The first installment of a new documentary video series — dubbed The Return: Chapter 1 – The Decision — shines the spotlight on the decision to return to Le Mans with the new 2017 Ford GT, and the lengths Ford is going to to make that happen.
