Electric Truck Startup Rivian Channels Battlezone with “Tank Turn” Feature

Not content to let Tesla’s angular Cybertruck hog all of the electric truck news heading into 2020, Rivian recently demonstrated a”Tank Turn” feature using one of their prototype R1T truck models. The aforementioned feature allows the vehicle to stay in one place while spinning in a circle, not unlike the behavior exhibited by jamming the left and right controls of the classic Battlezone arcade game in opposite directions. According to Rivian, the Tank Turn functionality will be available in both the R1T truck and R1S SUV models, and demonstrates the benefit of having a hub motor at each of the four wheels. It’s an impressive bit of engineering, and will possibly boost Rivian’s appeal in the off-roading wing of the full-size pick up market.
