Nissan Serves Up a Rogue SUV for Star Wars Fans
With the latest installment in the Star Wars franchise — Rogue One: A Star Wars Story — hitting theaters this week to mixed (but largely positive) reviews, Nissan hopes to capitalize on the name connection between the new film and it’s most popular vehicle: the Rogue SUV.
Dubbed the Nissan Rogue – Rogue One: Star Wars Limited Edition, this limited edition model (with a production run of 5000 in the U.S. and 400 in Canada) sports either black or white paint, and includes exterior badging designed by Lucasfilm, as well as interior branding on seating surfaces. In addition, purchasers of the Star Wars edition Rogue will get one of 5,400 full-size, numbered, limited edition Death Trooper helmets.
While a Star Wars-branded vehicle is a first for any automaker, it will be interesting to see how well this limited edition is received, given that most of the features exclusive to the Star Wars edition are limited to cosmetic ones. Granted, the most die-hard Star Wars fans could also outfit this Rogue with lightsaber windshield wipers, Star Wars-themed rear window decals, or (my personal favorite) an R2-D2 USB phone charger for even more Star Wars mojo.
Regardless, the 2017 Nissan Rogue is already an impressive vehicle, and kudos to the quick-witted Nissan marketing team for making the Star Wars connection and bringing this limited edition vehicle to market in such a timely fashion. And if you’re a Star Wars fan looking for a compact crossover SUV, the force seems to be quite strong with the Nissan Rogue – Rogue One: Star Wars Limited Edition.
