Programmer Mods Porsche 911 to Play Doom

The original Doom is one of the most hacked, modded, and otherwise customized pieces of gaming software in the history of PC gaming. Arguably one of the most creative Doom experiments is one done by Matt Swarthout (Twitter: @ActuallyVexal), a programmer who decided to get Doom to run on the system display of a Porsche 911.

Here’s the truly interesting bit: Swarthout apparently controls the game using the actual vehicle controls while driving. The steering wheel moves your grizzled space marine left and right, while the horn is used to fire the currently-equipped weapon.

It’s incredibly dangerous stuff, so don’t try this at home unless you have ample amounts of space to drive your vehicle, an up-to-date insurance policy, and lots of understanding neighbors that don’t mind you honking like a maniac as you drive over their rose bushes while blasting zombies and cacodemons.

One more thing? It also appears to be a fabrication, so kudos to Swarthout to the deadpan delivery that helps sell the illusion. Swarthout also created a similar spoof video showing how to mod a toaster to play PC games several years ago, and said toaster makes a brief appearance in this video also.
