Watch: A McLaren 720S replica constructed entirely of LEGO bricks
The recently-unveiled McLaren 720S is unarguably one of the most beautiful supercars on the road today, with an exterior design shaped by decades of racing and automotive work by the esteemed engineers and designers at McLaren. That gorgeous exterior has now been rendered in LEGO brick form, thanks to a 280,000 LEGO brick model produced for the McLaren booth at the 2017 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
According to McLaren, the life-size LEGO replica was created to simultaneously promote the launch of the new LEGO Speed Champions McLaren 720S set, as well as to raise over £2,700 for the the Roberts Centre, a charity that helps helps families in crisis. The model was assembled by Bright Bricks, a LEGO Certified Professional building company. According to a McLaren post about the build, the life-size LEGO McLaren 720S “…took the firm’s team of six model makers over 2,000 man hours…” to complete.
Both the real McLaren 720S and the LEGO model depicting are now available for sale, although the latter will set you back far less than the former: A brand-new McLaren 720S starts at roughly $250,000, while the LEGO model weighs in at a modest $15.
